Illicitly traded tobacco poses greater health risks than legal tobacco

The World Customs Organization today released its Illicit trade report 2013, noting that “the growth in the illicit trade in tobacco remains a worrying worldwide phenomenon and an enduring source of funding for other illicit activities that undermine our societies, good governance and the rule of law” and that “the illicit market may account for as much as one in every ten cigarettes smoked across the globe”.
